I’m a second year graduate student studying at Radboud University doing a double degree in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Neuroscience focusing on cognitive and neural computations. I’m passionate about bayesian neural networks, active inference, reinforcement learning and information theory

    • working on convolutional neural networks optimized for multi-modal scene recognition
    • re-using a network pretrained on the places205 dataset (natural images) for clip art and sketches
    • implemented in keras with tensorflow backend

  • Research at Mainz University (June 2014 - August 2014)

    • project title ‘the determinants of cooperation and behavior of children in public good games’
    • in cooperation with the Faculty of Business and Economics Management and Microeconomics at Goethe-University
    • planning, coordination, documentation and analysis of the results during quantiative experiment about cooperation

Research Interest

My overall interest lies in different kinds of computations, across different scales and timeframes. Ranging from simple cellular automata over neural computations to dynamics governing human brain networks.

  • Computational Neuroscience: Interplay between large populations of neurons and their ability to perform sophisticated computations. Further I’m interested in predictive coding (the free-energy principle) and its implications for modelling neural circuits.
  • Statistical Machine Learning: I’m interested in the foundations of machine learning and their current lack to sufficiently explain deep learning models. How to optimally implement causal interference using Bayesian methods. And further the recent developments in reinforcement learning and the use of Markov models to formalize problems caught my attention.
  • Complex Systems: I’m interested in how large-scale complex phenomena emerge from distributed, simple and local computations. How these systems perform information storage, transfer and modifications and how micro & microstates interact. Further to understand the importance of emergent structure for computing and specially using Information theoretic measures to assess interactions appeals to me.
